Scott has been involved with flyball since the sport began in 1985. Scott's training method is a no-correction, reward-based system which builds drive, motivation and confidence, without using food or play toys (using only the tennis ball). Subjects covered include: building ball drive, training for jumping, distractions, teaching the swimmer's turn, making the transition to the flyball box, teaching the pass, passing as a team, building jump heights, and problem solving such as cutting jumps or dropping the ball. Part of Scott's method employs a unique piece of training equipment he calls "The Shoot" to introduce your dog to all aspects of: hitting the flyball box, grabbing the ball and making a swimmer's turn, before making the transition onto an actual flyball box. This eliminates many difficult problems which are frequently caused by new dogs being frightened by the noise of the flyball box, the feel of the launch peddle, or the sudden launch of the ball.
